Merit Badge Counselors

The following is a list of merit badge counselors registered with Troop4. Additional merit badge counselors are available through the Rose BowlDistrict, however we are currently unable to publish that list due toprivacy concerns. However, the District list is available at theDistrict Office. Also, several of our Assistant Scoutmasters have copies of this list and are available to help locate appropriatecounselors. These ASM’s are also authorized to distribute the blue meritbadge cards. Once the merit badge card is complete and signed by themerit badge counselor, it is to be turned in to the Scoutmaster.

Troop 4 always wants to augment our already strong Merit Badge Counselor list.  Merit badges are a great learning and advancement opportunity for our scouts. While we have many excellent counselors currently, there are over 100 different merit badges available through BSA. Troop 4 has a wealth of talent among all of its families, and we hope each of you will consider this a great opportunity to look at the array of badges and decide if you would like to support the boys by being a Merit Badge Counselor. We briefly describe the process to become a Merit Badge Counselor for Troop 4 below.

According to BSA, a Merit Badge Counselor should be proficient in the merit badge subject matter by vocation, avocation, or special training.  To read more about being a Merit Badge Counselor please click here.

Click here to see a list of all of the merit badges that are available through BSA. Go to the bottom of the page and review the list.  If you see a badge you are interested in learning more about, click on the name and a page will open listing the basic requirements for that badge.  If you find one that interests you and for which you would be able to serve as a Merit Badge Counselor then follow these steps to register as a Merit Badge Counselor for Troop 4.

  1. Complete the BSA’s Adult Application form which some of you may have already completed.  If you need a copy, please check with the Scoutmaster.
  2. Complete the BSA Merit Badge Counselor Information form, which you can print from this link: http://www.scouting.org/filestore/pdf/34405.pdf

At the bottom of this form you are given a choice of being a Merit Badge Counselor only for our troop or for the entire council.  Most of our merit badge counselors have volunteered for our troop rather than the entire council. If you have questions about this, please let us know.  Once you have filled out the forms please give them to the Scoutmaster.

The Boy Scouts of America strongly recommends that merit badge counselors take BSA Youth Protection training. This program addresses strategies for personal safety awareness for youth as well as adults.  It can be completed on line in about 30 - 45 minutes at: http://olc.scouting.org/

Troop 4 is very excited about adding new Merit Badge Counselors to the our list.  This will give our scouts more choices as they consider the merit badges they are interested in earning.
