Fifteen T4 Scouts earned their coin collecting merit badges on August 23 at the Golden State Coin Show held in the Arcadia Masonic Temple. Walt Ostromecki, president of the American Numismatic Association regaled the workshop with fun facts about all forms of currency. Scouts were even shown real-time a rare double-headed Indian nickel worth $4 million! They showed examples of “money” dating back to ancient times, as well as “canoe” money from the South Pacific. The scouts enjoyed learning about how and where modern US money is minted and printed. The scouts learned how collectible coins are rated. Lastly the group toured the coin show. A profitable time was had by all.
